Just long enough to say...

People I haven't heard from in years contacted me about the Kickstarter. You know the one.

Man, I can't stop grinning...nor watching the numbers climb.

Kickstart, tiny blonde one. Kickstart like the WIND.

It may be noticed that I no longer post in this lj much, although I do use it to make the odd comment. It's struck me that many people here don't even really know me, and some of the lack of posting is genuinely because I sort of feel like this journal is more a space to watch others and comment to other people than to express myself and what's going on in my life.

I'm still keeping this journal up, heaven knows, as this is really still a kind of 'home', and it's where I conveniently have many awesome people whose ljs I still want to read. But at this point, I'm partitioning some things off. You'll still see my usual infrequent public update, and I'm still commenting a lot from this LJ.

Fiction writing goes to angryghosts, my not-abused-enough writing-thought journal.
My new 'personal stuff that only friends care about' lj is evilstmars.

The above two are friends-only, and if you want to add me, I will probably entertain you much more in those two places than here, unless you live for me to comment to you. This journal is NOT closed; I'm just moving around to find my comfort zone as things change.

I did a massive friendsadd of anybody still on my list. I never cut people off the list, much, and I never lock a whole lot in my lj since I rarely update -- RL and lingering freakouts about sharing stuff will do that.

If I missed you, let me know. I will probably add back. Eventually. @set me=dork.

What's New, Pussycat?

Martin's Passage: Stand.
Well, this has been awhile. Let's catch up in brief:

San Francisco was amazing. Sunil is wonderful, the ocean is wonderful, my clone is wonderful, and STEPHEN KING ACKNOWLEDGED MY EXISTENCE.

I got promoted at work starting in December! It cannot. come. quickly. enough... As a special project at work, I am editing repair manuals for sofas and chairs. I am proud to say that I took out the segment in our leather care guide that implied that, like soylent green, my company's sofas were made out of people.

And probably most importantly, the question for the class. This is the latest development facing my father, a thirty-year veteran and second-in-command to a corrupt police chief here in Wisconsin. Further reading on this blog, for those interested, will give you my mother's statement on MP3 to the city council, because every underling to this chief is under a muzzling ordinance, and further information. Speaking as someone close to those involved and who has seen this department for most of the same thirty years my father has been there...because The Internets Are Very Smart:

Any help and suggestion you can give in helping expose this to enough outcry that something is done would be wonderful. Currently, I'm doing everything from trying to contact People magazine to get them to take a human interest, to working our legal and media contacts locally and throughout Wisconsin. What is being done to my father is the tip of the iceberg, and it stems from him daring to support the work of a veteran investigator who followed the law and was himself punished for it because it exposed the bad behavior of the local city employees and city council, over the corrupt chief of police and mayor who worked to suppress a sexual-harassment case among city officials.

Something will happen in time, and I have every faith that we will see movement sometime...but in the meanwhile, my father is a lifelong smoker whose prior problems I have detailed here before, not in the best of health. He has been repeatedly in the hospital from the stress of this, and has lost twenty pounds in this month alone, atop having my family's livelihood and his pension threatened. As a friend said to me this week, you don't get the time back that you lose once it's gone. Since August, my family has been living under the specter of these affairs -- the witness-tampering, the pressure to ignore sexual harassment as 'just a joke' rather than follow the procedure under the law, the driving out of good employees in an already understaffed department and the unspoken 'shut up or be targeted next' atmosphere, professionality traded for paranoid persecution.

I realize this is one-sided of me, but hey, it's my blog, and I am happy to elaborate some if needed. And I figure you deserve an explanation for where I've been. Answer: Fighting The Man.

Martin's Passage: Heroes
In one week, I will be in San Francisco. With the clone and the goweli and the porpentine and the lots of cool people. Preparing to see Stephen King with the clone. And generally visiting.

Now you know.

Dear Dumbass (IE, me):

National Sad Day Of Remembrance + Your Refusal To Remember That It Is No Longer Summer And Mister Sun Is Denying You Happy Rays + Anxiety Fun + Ten Hours of Work = FUCKING RELAX AND STOP BEATING YOURSELF UP.

And turn off Bush, because he will only make you grumpy.

*I'm considering changing my journal name. This one feels so 2001.

*Life is good but very busy. I don't know when I'm going to have time again for just relaxing. Someday.

*I'm reminded again that I'm still, underneath it all, the same kid who believed in Santa Claus until I was eleven, and my first reaction was, "Don't tell me the Easter Bunny isn't real TOO?" I am still too utterly naive to believe the worst, even when I probably should. The faith in people and the world around me is probably a good thing in some ways, but in others I'm always running smack into walls of reality when the rose-colored glasses of denial break down. I'm always /surprised/, but surprises just aren't always good.

*We got our Emmy-cat. She currently snoozes beside me, purring like a motor. She's a very thoughtful cat; she's had hairball issues a couple times as she readjusts, but she's always managed NOT to do it on the carpet. Best cat ever.

*I probably should write about some other stuff, job-related and fitness-related (hey, I got a DDR pad, what games do I want?), and kid-related, but I'm not really feeling terribly interesting lately. My daily drama is mundane: I have no time, my money ain't there for at least another few months, and I've had some moments of isolation. I wish I were going to Comic-Con.

*Pie. That is all.

Good things: all my things are in my house. Got my clone Seanan's live album in the mail when I got back from U-Hauling. Time with my daughter, who is officially gonna be a Big First Grader next year. Was slapped repeatedly by the muse. Now to get through the next two months.

Yeah, it's brief and pointless. Life good.
